Company History, Background and Philosophy

Situated a few minutes drive from London's Gatwick airport, Roband is an independent British company specialising in the design, development and manufacture of both low and high voltage power supply systems for defence applications. We also specialise in electronic ac generation.

We are involved in numerous prestige high profile programmes concerning all platform types: avionic, fixed wing and rotorcraft: missiles/torpedoes: surface and underwater vessels: fixed location and mobile land applications for both the domestic and world markets.

Our units are designed to work in the most extreme environments.

We are committed to offering first class equipment and service. To this end we are virtually self-sufficient and as a matter of philosophy intend to remain so. This ensures that we are in the unique position of simultaneously being able to guarantee quality and priority.

We were established in 1956 and moved to our current Charlwood base in 1963. We have an unparalleled record for quality, capability and value. Roband was awarded DEF-STAN 05-21 in February 1977, superseded in May 1986 by AQAP-1, and in February 1993 BS5750 approval. The current applicable standard, BS EN ISO 9001, was awarded in February 1995.

In addition to a full custom design facility we have a comprehensive range of standard military units. We provide a build to print capability and will undertake design and/or support of related equipment.

In development we have an experienced permanent design team working in modern well-equipped laboratories. Facilities include EMC measurement, thermal cycling, and vibration including random. We undertake all our own metalwork, including CNC machining, wound component design and manufacture, electrical assembly and test including full climatic Burn-In/ESS. All encapsulation, vital for compact high voltage units, is performed on site as well as a full range of other support activities. All work is carried out in accordance with our BS EN ISO 9001 fully approved quality control system.

Regarding long-term security, it is self evident that stability and continuity are of prime importance. Roband is an independent financially secure company. Our 9.5 acre site, buildings, plant and equipment are entirely owned by ourselves. Being financially secure enables us to remain fully committed to our customers without the need for external support.
